Starbucks Menu Prices in South Africa
Starbucks arrived in South Africa in 2016 and now runs over 70 stores across the country’s major cities, from Sandton to the V&A Waterfront. Unlike most fast-food chains on this site, Starbucks sits in the premium café bracket: its menu spans hot and iced espresso drinks, Frappuccino® blends, Teavana™ teas, toasties, and its own retail line of whole bean coffee, Nespresso-compatible pods, and branded mugs and tumblers. Below is the full Starbucks South Africa price list.
Starbucks Hot Coffee Prices

| Cappuccino | R47.00 |
| Latte | R47.00 |
| Caramel Macchiato | R57.00 |
| Lavender Velvet Latte | R58.00 |
| Chocolate Mousse Latte | R58.00 |
| Toffee Nut Latte | R58.00 |

| White Mocha | R62.00 |
Starbucks is the cheapest Americano in South African fast food, and the most expensive cappuccino
Starbucks has a reputation for being expensive, and on most of the menu that holds. But run the numbers against the other coffee counters we track and the picture is more interesting than the reputation suggests.
An Americano at Starbucks is R31.00. At Burger King’s Café Royale it is R32.90, at Wimpy it is R36.90, and a Tall Americano at McDonald’s McCafé is R38.90. On a straight black coffee, Starbucks is the cheapest of the four, R7.90 below McDonald’s.
Milk changes everything. A Starbucks Cappuccino is R47.00, against R26.90 at both Wimpy and McDonald’s McCafé and R36.90 at Burger King. That is R20.10 more than the Wimpy price, or roughly 75% more for the same drink.
Verdict: if you drink your coffee black, Starbucks is genuinely competitive and arguably the best-value option on this list. If you drink cappuccinos, lattes or anything blended, it is comfortably the most expensive place to do it.
Within the hot menu, a Latte matches the Cappuccino at R47.00, the seasonal and flavoured lattes (Lavender Velvet, Chocolate Mousse, Toffee Nut and Gingerbread) all sit at R58.00, an R11 premium over a plain Latte. A Caramel Macchiato is R57.00, a Mocha is R59.00 and the White Mocha tops the hot coffee list at R62.00.
Starbucks Iced Coffee Prices
| Drink | Price |
|---|---|
| Iced Americano | R35.00 |
| Iced Latte | R53.00 |
| Cold Brew | R53.00 |
| Cold Brew Latte | R53.00 |
| Iced Caramel Macchiato | R61.00 |
| Iced Mocha | R65.00 |
| Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso | R64.00 |
| Iced Lavender Latte | R64.00 |
| Iced Chocolate Mousse Latte | R64.00 |
| Toffee Nut Iced Latte | R64.00 |
| Gingerbread Iced Latte | R64.00 |
| Iced White Mocha | R69.00 |
What the iced version costs you
The iced premium at Starbucks is small and consistent, which makes it easy to plan around. An Iced Americano is R35.00 against R31.00 hot, a R4 step. An Iced Latte is R53.00 against R47.00, a R6 step. An Iced Caramel Macchiato adds R4 at R61.00 and an Iced Mocha adds R6 at R65.00.
So the rule is roughly R4 on the espresso-and-water drinks and R6 on the milk drinks. At the top of the iced list, the Iced White Mocha is R69.00, and Cold Brew, Cold Brew Latte and Iced Latte all share a R53.00 price, which makes Cold Brew the pick of the three if you want the strongest option for the money.
Starbucks Hot Chocolate Prices
| Drink | Price |
|---|---|
| Classic Hot Chocolate | R46.00 |
| White Hot Chocolate | R47.00 |
Hot chocolate prices
There are only two lines here: Classic Hot Chocolate at R46.00 and White Hot Chocolate at R47.00, a R1 difference. Both undercut a Starbucks Cappuccino, which is unusual. At most chains hot chocolate is the more expensive drink. For comparison, a Wimpy Hot Chocolate is R53.90, so this is another line where Starbucks is genuinely cheaper than a sit-down family restaurant.
Teavana™ Tea Prices
Starbucks’ tea menu runs under its Teavana™ brand, split across hot tea, tea lattes, and a large range of iced teas and fruit Refresha® drinks.
| Teavana™ Hot Tea | Price |

Teavana tea: the value corner of the Starbucks menu
A hot Teavana tea (Rooibos, English Breakfast or Chamomile) is R30.00, making it the second-cheapest drink on the menu after the Americano. Against R25.90 for Five Roses or Rooibos at Wimpy, that is only R4.10 more, which is a far smaller gap than the coffee comparison.
Adding milk applies the same penalty as it does to coffee. A Chai Tea Latte or Rooibos Latte is R51.00, a R21 jump from the plain hot tea, and the Iced Chai Tea Latte is R57.00.
The shaken iced teas start at R48.00 for the Green, Black and Hibiscus versions, with the lemonade variants and the Lemon and Peach Iced Teas all at R53.00. The Refresha range runs from R63.00 for the Very Berry through R64.00 for the Strawberry Acai, Cool Lime, Mango Dragonfruit and Melon Pearls, with the coconut-milk versions adding a flat R6 at R70.00.

| Lavender Crème Frappuccino® | R76.00 |
| Toffee Nut Crème Frappuccino® | R77.00 |
| Gingerbread Crème Frappuccino® | R77.00 |
Frappuccino prices: the R5 and R12 tiers
The Frappuccino board is priced in three clean tiers. The Coffee and Espresso Frappuccinos form the R65.00 base. Caramel, Java Chip, White Mocha and Mocha all add R5 at R70.00. The seasonal Toffee Nut and Gingerbread versions add R12 at R77.00.
The blended crème range starts one tier higher, with Chocolate Chip, Chocolate, Caramel, Vanilla and White Chocolate Cream Frappuccinos all at R70.00, the Lavender Crème at R76.00 and the Toffee Nut and Gingerbread Crème versions at R77.00.
At R77.00 a Frappuccino costs more than a large Margherita pizza at Roman’s (R81.90, within R5), and more than a full Double Cheeseburger Meal at McDonald’s. That is the clearest illustration of where Starbucks sits in the South African market: the blended drinks are priced as desserts, not as coffee.

Starbucks food is priced much closer to its rivals than its drinks are
This is the genuinely surprising part of the menu. A Classic Cheese Toastie at Starbucks is R67.00. A Toasted Cheese & Tomato at Wimpy is R59.90. A gap of R7.10 on a toasted sandwich, against the R20.10 gap on a cappuccino.
It goes further. The Smoked Trout Cream Cheese Bagel at R103.00 is the most expensive food item Starbucks South Africa sells, and it is still R16.90 cheaper than a Toasted Dagwood at Wimpy (R119.90).
A Cream Cheese Bagel at R54.00 is the cheapest food line. The toasties sit at R67.00 for the cheese versions and R71.00 for Chicken Mayo, Chilli Cheese and Jalapeño Chicken Mayo, rising to R83.00 for the Macon Cheese options on either sourdough or seeded bread.
And one line worth knowing if you are simply thirsty: Still and Sparkling Water at R22.00 is the cheapest bottled water of any chain on this site, undercutting Burger King (R22.90), McDonald’s Bonaqua (R24.90) and Wimpy (R27.90). Sanpellegrino cans are R36.00.
Verdict: the sensible Starbucks order in South Africa is an Americano or a hot Teavana tea with a toastie. That combination is competitive with any coffee shop in the country. Order a Frappuccino and a Refresha and you are paying the premium the brand is known for.

How Starbucks Prices Can Vary by City
Starbucks South Africa’s menu pricing is set close to a national standard, but airport, mall, and CBD stores (think Sandton, the V&A Waterfront, or Cape Town International) tend to run slightly above suburban locations. The list above reflects Starbucks’ standard national pricing. Store-level comparisons for the bigger metros, starting with Johannesburg and Cape Town, are something we plan to add.
