Pizza Hut vs Debonairs: Prices Compared in South Africa (2026)
Last updated:
Debonairs and Pizza Hut are the two pizza names most South Africans choose between, and they price very differently. Debonairs, the Famous Brands chain, runs a long menu with three ranges and rock-bottom entry prices. Pizza Hut, the global brand, runs a shorter menu, charges more for the same pizza almost every time, and then wins some of that back with big group deals. This page puts the two menus side by side, pizza for pizza and deal for deal, using prices checked on 7 November 2026.
The short version: on ordinary list prices Debonairs is cheaper on nearly everything, by R10 to R30 a pizza. Pizza Hut only takes the lead when you are feeding a crowd, where its Party Flex Box works out cheaper per pizza than anything Debonairs offers. The detail, and the exceptions, are in the tables below.
The Verdict at a Glance
| Test | Pizza Hut | Debonairs | Winner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large Margherita | R99.90 | R84.90 | Debonairs by R15 |
| Large Pepperoni | R144.90 | R124.90 | Debonairs by R20 |
| Cheapest single meal | My Box from R59.90 | PizzaWrap R26.90 | Debonairs |
| Three large pizzas | Party Flex R249.90 | On The Triple R269.90 | Pizza Hut by R20 |
| Stacked pizza | None on the SA menu | Triple-Decker from R94.90 | Debonairs |
| Chicken wings | None (nuggets instead) | Wings from R44.90 | Debonairs |
How These Prices Were Checked
Pizza Hut prices come from the official Pizza Hut South Africa ordering site, checked on 7 November 2026 with delivery set to Sandton, Johannesburg. Pizza Hut does not publish a single national price list on that site, so treat its figures as one large Johannesburg store’s menu; another branch may differ by a few rand. Debonairs prices are the chain’s standard menu prices, the same set listed on our Debonairs menu prices page, which is checked against the official Debonairs menu. One more difference matters before any table: Debonairs publishes its pizza sizes in centimetres (medium 23cm, large 30cm), while the Pizza Hut site shows no sizes at all, only Small, Medium and Large. You cannot do an exact per-centimetre comparison, so the tables below compare the size tiers the chains themselves sell.
Margherita and Cheese: the Base Test
The Margherita is the cleanest test because both chains sell the same pizza. Pizza Hut wins the small by R2, then loses the medium by R10 and the large by R15. Pizza Hut’s Double Cheese large lands at the same R99.90 as its Margherita large, which softens the gap for cheese lovers, but Debonairs still takes the tier.
| Margherita | Small | Medium | Large |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pizza Hut | R29.90 | R69.90 | R99.90 |
| Debonairs | R31.90 | R59.90 | R84.90 |
| Difference | Pizza Hut by R2 | Debonairs by R10 | Debonairs by R15 |
Pepperoni, Meaty, Chicken and Veggie
The pattern repeats across the topped ranges, and the gaps widen. Pizza Hut prices its Supreme range (Pepperoni, Meat Lovers, Chicken Supreme and Feta Roast Veg) at one flat set of prices: R59.90, R109.90 and R144.90. Debonairs spreads its equivalents across two cheaper ranges, the Real Deal tier and the Clazzics, and undercuts Pizza Hut at every size. The medium Pepperoni gap, R30, is the biggest on this page.
| Pizza | Chain | Small | Medium | Large |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pepperoni | Pizza Hut | R59.90 | R109.90 | R144.90 |
| Pepperoni | Debonairs | R49.90 | R79.90 | R124.90 |
| Meat lovers style | Pizza Hut Meat Lovers | R59.90 | R109.90 | R144.90 |
| Meat lovers style | Debonairs Meaty Clazzic | R49.90 | R79.90 | R124.90 |
| Chicken | Pizza Hut Chicken Supreme | R59.90 | R109.90 | R144.90 |
| Chicken | Debonairs Chicken (Real Deal) | R33.90 | R64.90 | R99.90 |
| Vegetarian | Pizza Hut Feta Roast Veg | R59.90 | R109.90 | R144.90 |
| Vegetarian | Debonairs Original Veggie | R49.90 | R79.90 | R124.90 |
Two honest qualifications. Debonairs’ very loaded Something Meaty large costs R154.90, which is R10 more than Pizza Hut’s Meat Lovers large, so at the extreme top end the chains cross over. And Pizza Hut’s mid-tier Favourites (Mexican Chicken, for example, at R54.90 / R94.90 / R139.90) sit between the two sets above, still above the Debonairs Clazzics on medium and large. Extra toppings cost R9.90 each at Pizza Hut, so building your own pizza widens the gap further.
Crusts and the Stuffed Crust Question
Many people land on Pizza Hut expecting the stuffed crust the brand is famous for overseas. On the current South African ordering menu there is no stuffed crust option: individual pizzas come on pan crust, with a traditional base appearing only inside one combo deal and rectangular bases inside the party combos. If crust variety is your deciding factor, neither chain is really selling it in South Africa right now, and the choice comes back to price and deals.
The Deals, Head to Head
This is where Pizza Hut fights back. Its deal structure is built around volume: the more larges you buy, the closer the per-pizza price gets to Debonairs, and at three pizzas it passes it. Debonairs counters at the solo and stacked end, where Pizza Hut has nothing. Current headline deals, all checked on 7 November 2026 (Debonairs deal terms are tracked in full on our Debonairs specials page):
| Scenario | Pizza Hut | Debonairs | Cheaper |
|---|---|---|---|
| One person | My Box: small pizza and chips R59.90 | PizzaWrap R26.90; Eazzy Lunch small pizza and Coke R42.90 | Debonairs |
| One large pizza | Hut Hookups large R89.90 (Delights and Favourites) | Large Real Deal from R84.90 at list | Debonairs, just |
| Two large pizzas | Match Up: 2 large for R199.90 | Two large Real Deal Margheritas R169.80; two large Clazzics from R249.80 | Depends on toppings |
| Three large pizzas | Party Flex: 3 large rectangular plus free 1.5L Coke R249.90 | On The Triple: 3 large (30cm) R269.90, online only | Pizza Hut by R20 |
| A crowd | Big Boss: about 1 metre of pizza, 3 flavours, R229.90 | Get-To-Gather: 4 large R409.90 | Pizza Hut per metre, Debonairs per pizza |
| Stacked pizza | Nothing equivalent | Triple-Decker R94.90 small / R209.90 large; Cram-Decker to R249.90 | Debonairs only |
Read the two-large row carefully, because it is the one most buyers get wrong. For plain Margheritas, Debonairs at list price (R169.80 for two larges) beats the Pizza Hut Match Up deal by R30. For topped pizzas the order flips: two large Debonairs Pepperonis cost R249.80 at list, while Pizza Hut’s Hut Doubles puts any two larges at R224.90 (4 for R399.90). The chain that is cheaper depends on what is on the pizza, which is exactly why both chains design their deals this way.
Sides, Wings and Drinks
Debonairs has the wider sides menu and the only wings: full chicken wings from R44.90 for two, Chicken Shots at R39.90 for 15, and cocktail cheese grillers from R54.90. Pizza Hut sells no wings at all in South Africa; its chicken side is Nugz at R49.90 for eight. The rest is close: garlic bread is R39.90 at Pizza Hut (4 pieces), loaded cheesy chips run R44.90 to R49.90, and a 440ml Coke costs R19.90 against Debonairs’ cheaper soft drink entry points (Dragon and Score at R15.90). For a pizza night with wings on the side, Debonairs is the only option of the two.
Halaal
Both chains cater for halaal customers, differently. Debonairs runs a separate halaal version of its full menu at the same prices as the standard menu, which you select before ordering. Pizza Hut certifies at store level: the Sandton store whose prices are used on this page is listed as halal, but certification varies by branch, so check your own store on the Pizza Hut site before ordering.
So Which One Should You Order?
For one or two ordinary pizzas, order Debonairs. It is cheaper on the Margherita, the Pepperoni, the meaty and the veggie at medium and large, its solo options start at R26.90, and it is the only one of the two with wings and a stacked pizza. For a party order of three or more larges, price Pizza Hut’s Party Flex and Big Boss first: at R249.90 for three large rectangular pizzas with a free 1.5 litre Coke, it undercuts Debonairs’ three-pizza deal by R20 and throws in the drink. And if you want the sit-down version of pizza night instead, Panarottis runs classic pizzas from R94.90 with any classic pizza or pasta at R99.90 on Tuesdays. Every chain mentioned here is listed with its full menu on our pizza prices in South Africa page.
