Burger King Menu Prices in South Africa

Burger King has been operating in the South African market since 2013. It is located somewhere in between the local burger market, being cheaper than sit-down burgers at Rocomamas, but more expensive than most McDonald’s flame-grilled burgers. The Whopper is a mainstay of the Burger King menu and often provides a good benchmark for comparison between Burger King pricing and other flame-grilled burgers such as Steers’ Burgers.

The questions people are trying to answer when choosing to visit Burger King are fairly straightforward: how can one eat here in the cheapest possible manner? And what is the best value for money at the restaurant? Going by Burger King SA’s 2026 pricing, the best value options would be King Deals (the bundle which consists of a burger, chips and a drink), the 2-Can-Dine combo (the favourite option, surviving most menu restructurings), as well as chicken royale and long chicken options (which cost 10–25R cheaper than beef Whoppers).

Food inflation is an influencing factor that has contributed to Burger King SA’s price changes during the past 12 months, but most of the increase was observed for flame-grilled beef products due to rising beef prices locally. Chicken-based dishes managed to maintain their prices better. However, if one is trying to find some bargains, he/she should look at the plant-based, chicken, and breakfast menus, because all of the single dishes in those menus cost less than R60.

There is something important to know about Burger King SA, which is not written on the menu board: Burger King SA provides lots of app-exclusive deals using the “King Deals” menu in its official Burger King mobile application. These deals usually consist of a “burger+fries+drink” bundle, providing a discount of up to 30% when compared to ordering them separately in the restaurant. When visiting Burger King regularly (more than once a month), it pays off downloading the app even once. Below is the current Burger King South Africa menu with September 2026 prices.

Burger King WHOPPER® Prices

Seven sizes and versions of the same burger, from a smaller Junior right up to a Triple. Each step up adds a patty or a variation on the classic lettuce, tomato, pickle, mayonnaise, and onion build.

WHOPPER®Price
WHOPPER® JuniorR49.90
WHOPPER®R69.90
WHOPPER® with CheeseR75.90
Fierce WHOPPER®R79.90
Double WHOPPER®R99.90
Double WHOPPER® with CheeseR105.90
Triple WHOPPER®R129.90

The standard WHOPPER® is R69.90 on its own. If you just want a taste of the flame-grilled flavour without the full burger, the Junior at R49.90 is the cheaper way in.

WHOPPER prices: every extra patty costs exactly R30

The WHOPPER ladder is one of the most consistently priced sections in South African fast food. A single WHOPPER is R69.90, the Double is R99.90 and the Triple is R129.90. Each additional beef patty costs exactly R30, with no discount for going bigger and no penalty either.

Cheese is equally predictable: R6 on the single (R69.90 to R75.90) and R6 on the double (R99.90 to R105.90). The WHOPPER Junior is R49.90, R20 less than the WHOPPER, while the Fierce WHOPPER is R79.90, R10 more than the WHOPPER with Cheese.

There’s no volume saving to chase here. The price of the patty never goes down. Order the size you really want. Pure rand-per-patty the Triple WHOPPER is R43.30 a patty. This, as the beef burger section below will show, is nowhere near the best rate on the menu.

Burger King Beef Burger Prices

This is where the entry-level pricing sits, and where Burger King includes a few items built specifically for South African tastes.

Big King®R59.90
Boerewors BurgerR69.90
Texas BBQ KingR89.90
Extra Long Chilli CheeseR79.90
Bacon KingR99.90

The Hamburger at R29.90 is the cheapest single item on the entire menu that still counts as a proper burger. The Boerewors Burger is the local twist worth knowing about, since you won’t find it on a Burger King menu outside South Africa.

The Double Cheeseburger is the best rand-per-patty on the Burger King menu

The Hamburger at R29.90 is the cheapest burger Burger King South Africa sells, and adding cheese costs R5 to make it a R34.90 Cheeseburger. Note that cheese is R5 here against R6 on the WHOPPER, a small inconsistency, but it tells you the two ranges are priced independently.

The Double Cheeseburger at R44.90 is the line that counts. That’s only R10 more than the single-patty Cheeseburger, making it the cheapest second beef patty on the menu by far: R10 versus the R30 you pay to double a WHOPPER. That’s R22.45 a patty, about half the price of a Triple WHOPPER.

There is also a genuine pricing quirk worth spotting: the single-patty Chilli Cheeseburger at R49.90 costs R5 more than the two-patty Double Cheeseburger at R44.90. If you want volume rather than chilli, the Double is the better order.

Further up, the Big King is R59.90, the Boerewors Burger is R69.90 (the same price as a standard WHOPPER), the Extra Long Chilli Cheese is R79.90, the Texas BBQ King is R89.90 and the Bacon King at R99.90 matches the Double WHOPPER exactly.

Conclusion: two Double Cheeseburgers cost R89.80 and give you four patties. A Triple WHOPPER costs R129.90 and gives you three. If patty count per rand is the goal, the answer is not in the WHOPPER section.

Vegan RoyaleR59.90
Fierce Crispy ChickenR69.90

The Vegan Royale sits at the same price as the standard chicken burgers, R59.90, and uses a plant-based fillet rather than chicken. It is currently the only fully vegan option on the menu.

Crispy chicken burger with fries from the Burger King menu range

The Vegan Royale is priced the same as the chicken burgers

The chicken range starts at R49.90 for the plain Chicken Burger, with the BK Crunch at R54.90 and the Original Chicken, Crispy Chicken and Vegan Royale all sharing a R59.90 price. The Fierce Crispy Chicken tops the section at R69.90.

What’s notable is the identical price of R59.90. The majority of South African chains charge a premium for a plant-based patty with R136.90 for Spur’s Beyond Burger as opposed to R86.90 for the Original Spur Burger, an R50 difference. Burger King is selling the Vegan Royale for R59.90, the same price as the Original Chicken and the Crispy Chicken, so it’s one of the few plant-based fast-food options in the country that’s not a price penalty.

Overall, if you are comparing plant-based options on price, the Vegan Royale is the best-value meat-free burger at any of the major chains. See our Steers and Spur pages for how the equivalents are priced.

Burger King Breakfast Prices

Burger King’s breakfast range is smaller than McDonald’s or Wimpy, built around English muffins rather than a full plate. Two of the five items use boerewors instead of a standard breakfast patty.

Breakfast ItemPrice
Egg & Cheese English MuffinR44.90
Boerie English MuffinR49.90
Boerie Bacon English MuffinR54.90
Chakalaka Brekkie BurgerR64.90
BBQ Brekkie BurgerR64.90

Burger King breakfast prices

Breakfast starts at R44.90 for the Egg & Cheese English Muffin. The Boerie English Muffin is R49.90, and the Boerie Bacon version is R54.90, so bacon costs a flat R5. The two Brekkie Burgers, Chakalaka and BBQ, both sit at R64.90.

For context, that R44.90 entry price is identical to the cheapest hot breakfast at Spur, which is a sit-down restaurant with table service. It is also R15 more than a R29.90 hamburger from the main menu, which is available at most branches from opening time, so if breakfast for you means cheap and hot rather than specifically breakfast food, the standard menu undercuts the breakfast menu.

Chicken Nuggets (4pc)R34.90
Mozzarella Cheese Sticks (4pc)R39.90
Chilli Cheese Bites (4pc)R39.90
Nacho Cheese Loaded FriesR49.90

Fries and sides: the R5 rule

BK Fries move in clean R5 steps: R24.90 small, R29.90 medium, and R34.90 large. Because the increment is flat while the portion grows, the large is the best value per rand and the small is the worst.

At R34.90 the large fries costs exactly the same as Onion Rings, 4-piece Chicken Wings and 4-piece Chicken Nuggets, which makes that R34.90 tier the most competitive on the menu. Mozzarella Cheese Sticks and Chilli Cheese Bites are both R39.90, and Nacho Cheese Loaded Fries at R49.90 carry a R15 premium over plain large fries.

One number that catches people off: a medium fries at R29.90 costs exactly the same as a whole Hamburger. If you are building a cheap meal, two Hamburgers cost less than a Cheeseburger and a large fries.

Vanilla King ShakeR39.90
Chocolate King ShakeR39.90
Salted Caramel King ShakeR44.90
Oreo FusionR49.90
Nutella FusionR49.90

Desserts, King Shakes and the Fusion range

The Ice Cream Cone at R19.90 is the cheapest item on the entire Burger King menu, cheaper than the R29.90 Hamburger, and the Choc Flake version adds R5 at R24.90.

King Shakes are R39.90 in Vanilla and Chocolate, with Salted Caramel R5 more at R44.90. The Oreo Fusion and Nutella Fusion are both R49.90, a R10 premium over a standard King Shake, which makes them the most expensive items in the dessert section but still cheaper than most sit-down desserts.

Verdict: if you want something sweet for under R25, the cone is the pick. The Fusions are the treat order rather than the value order.

Burger King Café Royale & Drinks Prices

One thing worth knowing before you order: Burger King South Africa serves Pepsi, not Coca-Cola. If you specifically want a Coke with your burger, that rules out Burger King before you even look at the menu.

Burger King drinks: Pepsi, not Coca-Cola

Worth clearing up because it is one of the most common questions about the chain: Burger King South Africa pours Pepsi, not Coca-Cola. Pepsi and Pepsi Max are both R29.90 for a medium, which is where the fountain drink range sits.

The Café Royale coffee list runs from an Americano at R32.90 through a Cappuccino at R36.90 and a Flat White at R37.90 to a Hot Chocolate at R39.90. That puts a Burger King cappuccino at R36.90, which is R2 more than a whole Cheeseburger. It’s a useful reminder that the coffee menu is priced against coffee shops rather than against the burger menu.

Bottled water is R22.90, only R2 less than a small fries, so it is one of the weaker value lines on the board if you are counting rands.

The WHOPPER® is still the single item most people order, and it is the reason to visit Burger King over a rival burger chain. For value, the WHOPPER® Junior at R49.90 gives you the same flame-grilled taste for less. The Big King® is Burger King’s answer to a Big Mac, built for people comparing it directly against McDonald’s. On the chicken side, the BK® Crunch is the most ordered option.

Burger King South Africa Trading Hours

How Burger King Prices Can Vary by City

Burger King’s roughly 150 South African stores are a mix of company and franchise-run locations, so pricing on core items is fairly consistent, but mall and airport branches can run above the standard list, and delivery-platform prices through Uber Eats and Mr D typically carry a markup over the till price. The prices above reflect Burger King’s standard national list. We are building out branch-level, city-by-city price comparisons for Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria.
